GC2018 World Broadcaster Meeting

NEP Host Broadcast (NEP HB) recently hosted the World Broadcaster Meeting on the Gold Coast for our Rights-holding Broadcasters (RHBs) from the Seven Network Australia, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Television New Zealand (TVNZ), Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and Sony Pictures Networks India.

Representatives from NEP HB and GOLDOC presented to the Rights Holders the status on our current planning, focussing on what’s new across all functional areas.

David Grevemberg and Ashley Abbott from the Commonwealth Games Federation spoke about gender equality and the power of language to help create a world where men and women are equal.

The briefing was held in the Lakeview Room at the Gold Coast Arts Centre, Surfers Paradise.  Sally Pearson, one of the GC2018 Ambassadors, also dropped in for a Q&A session to talk about her Commonwealth Games experience and winning multiple GOLD medals in the 100m hurdles.

Our Destination Partners – City of Gold Coast, Tourism & Events Queensland, Gold Coast Tourism sponsored informal Welcome Drinks, poolside at the Sofitel Hotel, Broadbeach.  This was an occasion for the Destination Partners to mingle with the Right-holding Broadcasters and share with them what the Gold Coast and Queensland has to offer.  His Worship Mayor of the City of Gold Coast Cr Tom Tate and Mayoress Mrs Ruth Tate attended.

Venue tours to Gold Coast Hockey Centre, Robina Stadium (Rugby Sevens) and Coomera Sports and Leisure Centre (Gymnastics & Netball Finals) were conducted after the meetings to showcase the venues and to give RHBs the chance to understand camera plans and see the location of the camera & commentary positions as well as the mixed zones.

The RHBs also took the opportunity to discuss what they need in the run-up to and during the Games including their potential stand-up and studio positions using the spectacular beaches and Gold Coast skyline as a backdrop.

An informal evening of barefoot bowls and a BBQ was held at the Broadbeach Bulls Lawn Bowls Club, the official lawn bowls venue for GC2018.  Professional lawn bowlers Ryan Bester and Chloe Stewart were on hand to share their expertise.  Borobi also joined in the fun.

This was the chance for NEP HB and GOLDOC presenters to intermingle with the RHBs in an informal setting whilst enjoying the great weather in Queensland – beautiful one day, perfect the next!
