Hands On Broadcast Training with the Experts

CCU and Camera Assist/Cablehand Workshop :  27th & 28th June 2017

The Host Broadcast Training Program held workshops for CCU operations and Camera Assistants/Cable hands at NEP’s Carole Park warehouse in late June.  Fifteen students participated from University of Southern Queensland, Bond University, Griffith University and TAFE QLD, Gold Coast, Coomera.


The workshops were held over two days, and students were tutored on basic CCU operation by Host Broadcast Coordinating Venue Technical Managers, Mark Corser and Peter Slater.  Over the coming months these students will spend time on location at live outside broadcasts where they will be guided by industry professionals to progress their skill levels.

Students were guided through the various types of cables and equipment in the grip truck by NEP Location Facility Coordinators John Clarke and Peter Collins who also tutored in handling cables including figure 8’s, lazy 8’s cable winding, and fibre cleaning.

Safe work practices are paramount to a live broadcast operations, and these skills and awareness were also included in the training.

The course was supported by Mario Silvestri (Directing), Neil Smith (Broadcast Engineer) and Gerry O’Leary (Head of Broadcast Training).
