The Main Media Center had a successful Media Welcoming event with performances from Australia’s first peoples, a Borobi meet and greet and Australian great Dawn Fraser presenting the Queens Baton.

President of Commonwealth Games Federation Louise Martin gave a warm welcome to the games Media, followed by Chairman of GC2018 GOLDOC Peter Beattie.

Media were treated to an intimate performance by the Yugambeh Youth Choir, who promote the knowledge and traditional language which was spoken throughout South East Queensland.

Torres Strait Island Dance Group Malu Kiai Mura Buai shared a performance of their traditional songs and dances passed down from generation to generation, specifically Boigu Island located in the top western part of the Torres Strait.

Adopting language words and having heavy community consultation, GC2018 aims to be the most indigenous friendly games in Australia’s history.

The Queens Baton was introduced to the stage by Australian Icon Dawn Fraser for photo opportunities before the baton continued its final leg of the journey.

Finishing off the ceremony was a meet and greet by Commonwealth Games 2018 mascot Borobi.
